JUST THE TWO OF US…
Mez Works Furniture was officially founded in 2011 by Terren Gomez-West. Based in his home garage in South Lake Tahoe, California, Terren's background as an action sports and landscape photographer gave him a keen eye for aesthetics, translating well into furniture making. Terren's interest in woodworking was nurtured by his uncle Richard (the original "Mez") who owns a custom furniture and cabinetry business on the island of Kauai, as well as by his father and stepfather, who taught him the basics of carpentry from a young age. At 26, Terren transitioned from photography to starting his company, Mez Works Furniture. Over the past 12 years, the business has expanded from a small garage to a fully operational workshop, creating and delivering nearly 1000 unique handmade pieces nationwide.
In 2011, Allie met Terren, and they began their journey together. Allie's background in regional sales, marketing, and event coordination in the action sports industry led to her developing an interest in woodworking and design. After moving Mez Works to its first commercial location, Allie left her career to apprentice and assist Terren in the workshop. She learned woodworking skills, refined procedures for better efficiency, and helped with customer service and project management. Her focus shifted to preliminary design work and she eventually became the lead designer for new prototypes. Skilled in digital design programs and website development, Allie returned to the workshop in 2023 to assist with builds and ramp-up production.
Lake Tahoe provides a beautiful locale that continuously inspires our one-of-a-kind handcrafted furniture creations. Our style has grown from a solely organic, mountain rustic focus, and after many years has evolved to offering a much fuller variety of modern and cutting edge design. Every aspect of our furniture is conceptualized and created in-house with precision and innovation in mind, ensuring the highest quality of production, and tailoring each piece to be unique. Our craftsmanship with both wood and metal reflects the natural beauty of their original source - from the sporadic knots and complexity of wood grains to the seamlessly blended welds and complimentary finishes that showcase the metals we work with. Our designs add a modern twist to classic styles by combining an industrial aesthetic with traditional compositions. The versatility of our collection compliments any style home or business, quaint or contemporary, and we work closely with every customer to make sure each piece is perfectly suited to its eventual forever home. We take pride in our craftsmanship, stylistic aesthetic, attention to detail, and we hope that you love our creations as much as we love creating them!
