STEEL FINISH OPTIONS
We have various steel finish options to choose from, all final coated with an extremely durable oven-baked powder-coat, with no upkeep required.
01: STOCK SOLID COLOR POWDER-COAT
Powder-coating allows us to achieve just about any color in a matte, satin or glossy sheen. It is a free-flowing dry powder that is applied electrostatically, then cured at ~390°F to allow it to form a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. It also contains no solvents, so it emits little-to-no VOC. Mainly used for coating auto/bike parts and outdoor furniture which require ultra durable / water resistant finishes. We arrange to have the legs professionally powder coated by a pro shop in our neighborhood, who charge accordingly for different dimensions.
Stock colors include matte black or satin black, silver, or dark bronze.
*Stock colors are all included in pricing on our store page, while some special order colors will require an upgrade cost*
02: SPECIAL ORDER SOLID COLOR POWDER-COAT
We can also custom order a color specific for your project through Prismatic Powders. You can order free swatches directly from Prismatic powders to pick out your own custom color.
03: CLEAR POWDER-COAT
A clear powder-coat will preserve the natural color of the steel, but protect it from staining and rusting. The welds are seamlessly blended, then sanded to a 'brushed finish'. The steel will appear natural and bright. Some “imperfections” (such as millscale or mild pitting) will show through with this finish option, embracing the natural character of raw steel, and can have a very slight bronze-ish hue from the powder baking process.
This application is an upgrade due to the added prep-work involved and processing times and costs can range from about +$50 - $125 depending on the size. Each listing on our store page lists the upgrade costs for adding the clear-coat, located in the ‘Steel Finish Options’ section of the listing.
This option is only available on designs that use steel tubing (shown in example images). Designs that use plate steel can only use a solid-colored powder-coat (option 1 or 2 only).
If you prefer a more uniform look, a silver powder-coat will have a similar color result while covering up the natural character of the steel (silver is a stock color we offer, outlined in option 1 above).
04: ‘BLACK MAGIC PATINA’ + CLEAR POWDER-COAT
A rich patina is applied to the bare steel with scotch-brite pads to give off a more industrial look, bringing the color of the steel to a deeper/darker grey with a hint of bronze and an added hand-rubbed "textured" appearance while remaining completely smooth to the touch. We apply multiple coats until the desired color is reached, followed by water to neutralize the chemical reaction. This process combines the patina and clear powder-coat for maintenance-free durability. This application may vary from piece to piece and character might differ, as this process essentially causes the steel to look 'antiqued' or aged to give the appearance of a vintage and well-loved collectible.
This application is an upgrade due to the added prep-work involved and processing times and costs can range from about +$75 - $175 for depending on the size. Each listing on our store page lists the upgrade costs for adding the patina, located in the ‘Steel Finish Options’ section of the listing.
This option is only available on designs that use steel tubing (shown in example images). Designs that use plate steel can only use a solid-colored powder-coat (option 1 or 2 only).
05: TWO TONE POWDER-COAT
On a few select bases and table leg sets, we can build them in a way where the bottom section notches into the top section so that two different powder-coat colors can be used. The top section and bottom section of the base can be customized in any color combination of your choice. We have a variety of stock powder-coat colors, or custom color options.
This application is an upgrade due to the added prep-work involved and processing time. Costs can range from about +$250-$650 depending on the design and size.
This option is only available on designs that use steel tubing (shown in example images). Designs that use plate steel can only use a solid-colored powder-coat (option 1 or 2 only).
